
BIO
Sam Wood is an artist, photographer and musician. He is a studio holder at Rhubaba gallery. Sam founded and edits Poor Art* an online magazine dedicated to reviewing and exhibiting contemporary Scottish artists. He has also played a role in Play and Platform a collective dedicated to showing Scottish artists and promoting charities such as the Settlements Projects. Sam is also a member of Fresh Focus a group championed by Stills Gallery, dedicated to up and coming photographic artists.

😂 :JOY: 😂 - Poor Art - Exhibition - Coburg House, Edinburgh. Poor Art’s second group show of artists, the title of the exhibition was taken from 2015’s word of the year.

Ex-Colonies - Exhibition - Six-foot Gallery, Glasgow, Photographic work by Sam Wood and Jack Low on ex-colonies of the British Empire was exhibited in the Six-foot Gallery this year.

Poor Art* Leith Late The magazine Poor Art* created its first print version in an exhibition as part of Leith Late in the Settlements Projects - a charity shop for homelessness - exhibiting artists including Emma Pratt, David McDiaemid, Sarinda Devine, Jack Handscombe, Lucy Wayman, Beth Carey, Julia Barbour, Emma Macleod, Michael Kay, Abi Lewis and Sam Wood.

Wish You Were Where, Eye am Camera Exhibition, Police Box Leith Late Sam, as a member of the Eye am Camera collective, took part in an exhibition in a police box which transformed it into a beach hut. The exhibition was featured in The Scotsman's review of the Arts Festival.

Bring Your Own Beamer - Exhibition - Saint Margret’s House Sam participated in a week long residency program to develop a piece of projection art to be shown alongside 29 other artists.

Flash Forward - Exhibition - Boston Took Had images included in the Flash Forward Photo Festival.

Founded Poor Art* - An online art magazine which is designed and edited by Sam and Artists Michael Kay and Julia Barbour.

Kaunas Photography Gallery - Exhibition. Some of Sam’s self published photo-zines were exhibited as part of a show of Scottish Photographers in the Lithuanian Photography Association Gallery.

Specially Commended in the Jill Todd Photographic Award and took part in the exhibition at Stills Gallery.

We Are All Strangers - Exhibition at the Assembly Roxy A selection of Sam’s recent artwork was exhibited in a group exhibition along with a number of works created by other artists, all of whom where strangers.

Self published three artist’s books - Publications on sale at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Street Level Photoworks and Stills Gallery, as well as featuring at the North East Photography Network Photo-Book Market at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

FOR REASONS UNKNOWN TO ME - Whitespace Gallery - Sam’s work was exhibited as part of a multi- disciplinary group exhibition.

Commissioned photographs by the National Library of Scotland - in which he took photographs of their collection, portraits of staff and documented the various rooms of the NLS.

Stills Gallery, Graduate Award, Residency - Sam undertook a year long Artist’s residency at Stills Gallery.

Free Range Exhibition at the Truman Brewery — Participated in the Free Range show in London. An image of his was published on The Creative Review’s blog coverage of the show.

Commissions for Appearhere - Sam has completed a number of commissions for the pop up gallery company Appearhere, photographing a number of shopping units and capturing street portraits for their website.
